Who we are

Oceandiversity Sea Adventures NZ is a locally owned marine tourism company founded on a simple belief: the best way to inspire ocean conservation is to experience it first-hand.

Based in Whangārei and exploring the incredible coastal waters between Cape Reinga and East Cape, we offer small-group snorkelling, scuba diving, and sustainable spearfishing experiences. Each trip is designed not just as an adventure, but as an educational journey that deepens your connection to the ocean while supporting conservation.

Our purpose

We’re here to do more than just run charters. We’re here to:
  • Share the magic of New Zealand’s marine life
  • Deliver adventures that are personal, safe, and unforgettable
  • Inspire ocean guardianship through education and hands-on experiences
  • Prove that sustainable use and ocean fun can go hand-in-hand

When we spearfish, we do it with self-imposed limits that go well beyond the rules, because we believe every action matters when it comes to protecting marine life.

Meet the company founders

Kim Jones

Owner, Operations Manager & Snorkel Guide

Kim is the beating heart of our conservation ethos.

With more than 700 dives logged, a PADI Divemaster qualification, and a background in biodiversity management, she blends adventure with education like no one else. She has supported thousands of snorkellers safely through New Zealand waters.

As Co-Director of the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust, she guides a nationwide team that helps communities care for their local oceans and rivers.

With Kim, every snorkel or dive comes with a healthy dose of wonder, learning, and care for the sea.

Blair Jones

Owner & Skipper, Snorkel Guide

Blair is our steady hand at the helm, an experienced skipper, diver, and passionate conservationist.

He’s been diving since 1995, is an SSI Master Diver, and has logged over 1,000 dives.

With his SRL skipper certification, years of maritime experience, and a love for the sea, Blair ensures every trip is safe, smooth, and filled with opportunities to explore new horizons.

Why respectful and sustainable?

With every charter, we're committed to sharing the wonders above and beneath the surface while fostering the next generation of marine stewards who understand both the importance of conservation and the principles of sustainable use that will help protect these precious waters for years to come.

Our safety commitment

Whether you’re diving, snorkelling, spearfishing, or photographing the ocean, you can relax knowing safety is the foundation of everything we do.

  • Fully compliant with a Maritime Transport Operator Plan.
  • Thorough safety briefings on every trip.
  • Constant weather monitoring and risk assessment.
  • Emergency gear onboard: oxygen kit, first aid kit, EPIRB, and VHF radio.
  • Decades of proven operational experience.

Our environmental ethos

Protecting the ocean is at the core of our mission.

  • Led by Kim’s work with the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust.
  • Active involvement in community-led marine initiatives across Aotearoa.
  • Self-imposed spearfishing limits are more conservative than recreational regulations.
  • Every charter includes education on biodiversity and conservation challenges.

By choosing Oceandiversity, you’re not only experiencing the ocean, you’re helping to protect it for future generations.
